Creepypastas are user-generated horror stories spread across the internet. With no traceable origin, these modern folktales – from Slender Man to The Backrooms – are passed between digital channels, their meaning emerging out of the ever-evolving feedback loop of stories that surround them. Led by internet researcher and writer Günseli Yalcinkaya, this workshop invites participants to create their own creepypastas. Combining a lecture, open discussion, and collective myth-making practices, the workshop aims to explore how stories take shape and spread online. It will also examine the role of creepypastas as a narrative vessel, blurring the lines between fact and fiction to cast a lens on present-day anxieties, while creating space for new imaginaries to surface.
