Workshop:The Gleaners Score

The workshop with curator, writer and educator Sebastian Cichocki consists of movements, gestures, restagings, sounds and evocations, brought together in a 45-minute performative exhibition staged at the Zdrowie cinema. The session draws on the concept of gleaning, which traditionally refers to collecting surplus crops after a harvest and redistributing them to those in need. Common from biblical times until the 18th century, the act of gleaning was a strategy of survival and resourcefulness, essential to those marginalised by the emerging forces of capitalism: widows and orphans, the poor and the expropriated, newcomers and exiles.

The Gleaners Score builds on this concept as a curatorial methodology to explore art's relationship with our bodies and nature. What constitutes an exhibition? How can we – that is, you, me and everyone in the room – share it?

The exhibition will be preceded by a lecture on the use of scores and protocols in the visual arts and popular culture. The score for the gathering is loosely based on John Cage's "Lecture on the Weather" (1975), which was originally conceived as a work for radio or the stage, as well as more recent performative exhibitions such as "La Monnaie vivante" (2006).
