Workshop:The Reenchantment of Presence

In an era saturated by algorithms, brands, and a tendency toward hyper-production in an already overcrowded industry, it seems increasingly hard to find one’s own way amidst the noise. Robin Fox, not only an internationally recognised audio-visual artist and composer but also a fairly decent human being, will discuss presence as a philosophy of survival for an artist. Not just in the sense of attendance and performance, but also being present in the creative process: maintaining friction as a source of satisfaction, turning up to your own work and making sure you are in the results. To not do this is to run the risk of making just another product for a defined market. A piece of artifice rather than art. Since the artwork or outcome is only one part of the ecosystem that makes the creation and sharing of culture possible, Robin will also speak of beauty as a behaviour and stress the importance of non-combative modes of operation, as well as non-industrial mindsets.
